JCCC Rated Top 10 Again!
UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center once again ranks among the top 10 cancer centers in the nation and is rated #1 in Southern California, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report survey. "The Jonsson Cancer Center is known for developing new and more effective targeted therapies to treat cancer and for providing leading-edge experimental treatments to patients," said JCCC Director Judith C. Gasson, Ph.D.

Killing Cancer Cells via Glucose Deprivation
In a unique study, a UCLA research team led by JCCC researcher Thomas Graeber, Ph.D. has investigated how the metabolism of glucose affects cancer cells. Dr. Graeber and his colleagues demonstrated that depriving cells of glucose activates a positive feedback loop that leads to cancer cell death. "These findings illustrate the delicate balance that exists between metabolism and signaling in the maintenance of cancer cell homeostasis," Graeber said. This study also showed the possible implications for therapeutic intervention targeting cancer metabolism. Read more.
